Walking pad calorie calculator
Estimate calories from a level walking-pad session using your body weight, walking speed, and time. This walking pad calorie calculator uses activity speed bands for slow treadmill walking.

THE BIG PICTURE
Total calories include the energy you would use at rest during this time.
An estimate, not a measurement. See the method and limits below.
UNDERSTAND YOUR SESSION
Estimate the movement in your day
A walking pad often runs at slower speeds than a conventional exercise treadmill. The main walking equation is not equally suitable across all those speeds. This tool uses level treadmill-walking MET categories from the 2024 Adult Compendium instead.
A MET represents an activity's oxygen cost relative to a conventional resting reference. The calculation converts METs to an estimated calorie rate for your body weight, then multiplies by your walking time. Active calories subtract one standard resting MET for that time.
The source groups speeds into bands. This means a small speed change near a band boundary can change the estimate more than the same change inside a band. That jump comes from the table categories, not a sudden change in your body. Avoid treating the display as a laboratory measurement.
Enter only the time you were actually walking. If you stop the belt for calls or breaks, exclude those minutes or calculate the walking periods separately. Typing, leaning on a desk, and an unusual stride are not individually modelled.
This view supports level walking below 4.5 mph. Use the main treadmill calorie calculator for incline walking, with its stated limits. Use the steps calculator if you also want an estimate based on your own step length.
THE METHOD
A transparent calculation.
Gross kcal = MET × 3.5 × weight (kg) ÷ 200 × minutes
Active kcal = (MET − 1) × 3.5 × weight (kg) ÷ 200 × minutes
Read the assumptions.
Level treadmill walking MET categories come from the 2024 Adult Compendium. Actual energy use varies. Speed bands are extended to intermediate decimal speeds; their boundaries are a calculator convention.
A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Walking pad calorie calculator questions
Does slow walking on a walking pad use energy?
Yes. This tool estimates the energy used from a speed category, weight, and walking time. It distinguishes total energy from active energy above the resting reference.
Why does the estimate jump at some speeds?
The Compendium lists categories rather than a continuous formula. Moving into a new speed band selects its listed MET value.
Can this tool calculate incline walking-pad calories?
This view is for level walking. For a device with incline, use the main calorie tool and read its model limits.
Walking-pad calories per hour
An under-desk treadmill calorie calculator describes slow, level desk walking. The walking-pad view uses treadmill MET categories rather than the main speed-and-grade equation. Desk treadmill calories burned depend on the speed band, entered weight and moving minutes; walking while working does not add a separate calorie multiplier.
| Speed | MET value | Total kcal/hour at 70 kg | Active kcal/hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mph | 2.3 | 169 | 96 |
| 1.5 mph | 2.8 | 206 | 132 |
| 2 mph | 3 | 221 | 147 |
| 2.5 mph | 3.5 | 257 | 184 |
| 3 mph | 3.8 | 279 | 206 |
Walking pad 2 mph calories are approximately 221 total kcal per hour at 70 kg; at 1 mph, about 169. Active calories subtract the tool’s standard resting reference. Walking pad versus sitting calories is not an exact personal comparison: the active figure removes that reference, not a measurement of your own seated energy expenditure.
Walking-pad distance, steps and weight-loss context
The walking pad distance calculator output is speed × moving hours. At 2 mph for 30 minutes, belt distance is one mile. For a walking pad steps estimate, open the steps calculator and enter your average step length; the calorie view does not measure steps. Pauses at your desk should not count as moving time.
Walking pad weight loss cannot be predicted from one session estimate. The tool does not assess the rest of your energy intake or expenditure. It is intended for level treadmill walking below 4.5 mph; curved decks, carried loads and incline need other evidence. See the 2024 walking MET categories.
